GLP-1 slows aging
September 2nd, 2026
The Chen lab at UC Berkeley discovered that late-life GLP-1R activation improved physiological function and markedly extended lifespan (median lifespan: control, 742 days; semaglutide, 834 days). Using state-of-the-art Hi-D FACS technology, we studied immune cells and HSCs in detail. This detailed study provides new insights into the regulation of aging and the alleviation of various aging-associated diseases (such as cancer). Such knowledge is expected to enhance clinical applications of GLP-1R agonist treatments against aging. This discovery was published in Nature in collaboration with CRL/FACS Core Facility team members, Drs. Kartoosh Heydari and Melaine Delcroix.
